Hi everyone,
Here's a shot of Bob Bryant and I pretending to eat Birthday Cake. And here's a Press Release about the HVA Radio Show.
HVA Celebrate Radio Milestone
Halton Voluntary Action is celebrating the first anniversary of an innovative project which has helped to promote 186 different Voluntary Sector groups in Halton.
Every Thursday afternoon, the organisation has hosted "The Voluntary Sector with HVA", a two hour radio show (between 2pm and 4pm) on Halton Community Radio 92.3FM. The purpose of the show is to raise awareness about the vast number of Voluntary Sector groups who work tirelessly to improve the lives of people in Runcorn & Widnes.
"There are literally hundreds of Voluntary groups in Halton", said HVA's Communication Officer Matthew Roberts (who hosts the radio show). "They're working in lots of different fields and whether it's working with young people, people with disabilities, older people, protecting the environment or whatever, we wanted to provide them with a platform so that they could promote activities and encourage others to get involved."
186 different organisations (including The Canal Boat Adventure Project, HITS and Halton Haven) have used the show to promote events or activities, recruit service users and raise awareness of volunteering opportunities within their group. Councillor Bob Bryant (Halton Brook) appeared on the first anniversary show to promote the Let's Go Stroke Club, the Voluntary organisation he founded 12 years ago. "Coming on the HVA radio show has given me the chance to tell everyone in Halton about the Let's Go Stroke Club's 12th Birthday Party. It's good fun and a terrific opportunity for groups to get some free publicity".
If you'd like to promote your Voluntary organisation on Halton Community Radio, contact Matthew Roberts on (01928) 593 118 or mroberts@haltonva.org.uk.
Wow, I can't believe that we've been doing the show for a whole year. We've churned out exactly 100 hours of radio. That's an awful lot of guests plugging an awful lot of different projects, events etc.
I really enjoy presenting the radio show and think that I've improved a fair bit over the year and I'm now a lot more confident speaking in public.
I'm really interested to know if anyone who's been interviewed on the show feels that their confidence (in presenting or public speaking) has increased as a result of coming on too. Or if they'd feel more comfortable about having to do an interview in future?
Have you learned anything about other Voluntary Sector orgs by listening to the show? Has your group found it to be a useful platform to promote activities etc?
Or do you think that there are more effective forms of communication that HVA should be pursuing at the expense of the radio show?
Please, please do let me know. As always, constructive criticism is welcomed, rudeness is not. Please post your comments below.
Thanks,
Matthew Roberts
PS: Don't forget that you can use the show has often as you like. Organisations aren't restricted to just one appearance. Repeat visits are most welcome!
